The Little River Trail is located in the historical Elkmont district of the Smoky Mountains and is a perfect trail for hikers of all ages and fitness levels! The trail runs alongside Little River and was once a railroad bed used by the Little River Lumber Company. As you begin the hike, you’ll pass by the former location of historical vacation homes in the park. Chimneys and other remnants of the past still remain and some of the homes of Elkmont are still present. The hike along Little River offers plenty of opportunities for playing in the river, stopping for a picnic, wildlife watching and exploring. Families can adjust the length of this hike to fit the needs of everyone in their party. Take a short stroll and enjoy the simple beauty of the mountains or spend the day on the trail and see how many Smokies gems you can find!

As park guests make their way around the nature trail they’re treated to views of the river, historical remnants from homes that once stood in the Sugarlands Valley, plenty of flora and sometimes even some fauna.
